BECOME AN ADVOCATE

One of the most critical roles at the Family Crisis Center is the role of Advocate.

Our Advocates are the first contact many victims make with our center. Advocates respond to law enforcement requests for assistance at all hours and work as a team with multiple agencies in the mutual interest of putting the victim first and getting them the help and support they need.

Advocate hours are from 4:30pm-8am, Monday through Thursday, from 2 pm on Fridays until the following Monday at 8 am. It is an on-call position.

It takes someone with a love for others, an openness to learning something new, and potentially difficult, and a willingness to commit time and energy to service. Our Advocates attend a state required 40-hour training series, culminating in an evaluation to assess their ability to go into the field with other Advocates. This is a volunteer position.

We will be scheduling training for the fall 2021 Advocate training series.

Classes typically begin in September and will end in December. Trainings are held on Wednesday evenings for approximately 3 hours per night.

Topics covered include:

  • Advocacy

  • Domestic Violence

  • Effects of Domestic Violence on Children

  • Sexual Assault

  • General Victim Services

  • Use of Local Resources

  • Idaho Law

  • Stalking

  • Civil Protection Orders

At the completion of the training, you should have an extensive knowledge of Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault, etc. and be able to respond to and effectively assist families dealing with abuse in their homes.
