There are a lot of myths regarding stalking so let’s talk about what they are and what the truth really is. 

  • Myth: Stalking is just harmless attention or someone having a crush. 

    • Fact: Stalking is a pattern of unwanted behavior that makes a person feel unsafe or afraid. It’s about power and control, not affection. 

  • Myth: If it's not physical, it's not stalking.

    • Fact: Stalking can be physical or digital, showing up uninvited, sending repeated messages, tracking someone’s location, or monitoring them online. 

  • Myth: It only happens between strangers.

    • Fact: Most stalking cases involve someone the victim knows.

  • Myth: If they didn’t threaten you, it's not stalking. 

    • Fact: Stalking doesn’t have to include direct threats.
